Back when we were in grade school in the '80s, there were a few things you needed if you wanted to make it with the cool kids. An A-Team lunch box. A Wendel Clark jersey. A Powell Peralta skate deck. And a pair of North Star sneakers on your feet. Those who were too young to live out the greatest decade of all time might not remember North Star, the Canadian shoe company that was founded in the late '70s by Bata, but as this YouTube clip shows, they made some of the most classic footwear of the pre-Jordan era. Now, a few decades later, North Star has been brought back to life in Toronto, making street-oriented sportswear and some updated interpretations of their traditional shoe designs. The good people there sent us one of their zip hoodies not too long ago, and we've been wearing it pretty steadily since—warm, well built, and made right here in Canada. We've also got another North Star hoody to give away, so email us at info@sbcsurf.com with "North Star Contest" in the subject line and we'll enter you into a random draw. Entries must be in by Thursday, April 26th.

For more about North Star, visit their website here and follow the company on Twitter here and Facebook here.
