Earlier this spring, Lawrencetown Beach local Jenner Cormier and 50 or so other Nova Scotian surfers got together for a beach cleanup at Atlantic Canada's most heavily used surf spot. After an hour of work, they'd collected "about 363 kilograms of garbage, including a full oil drum, tires, pieces of a boat and too many cigarette butts and coffee cups to count." Their altruistic efforts earned them a story in the Dartmouth Community Herald, which you can read in full here. Hopefully those 363 kilograms of garbage translate into 363 additional waves for everyone over the summer, or 363 additional seconds of nicely trimmed tip time. Good on ya, boys and girls.
For those in the area, there's another beach cleanup at Lawrencetown scheduled for June 19th.
